Our Year 7 Curriculum is designed using a 'Core’ and ‘Elective Sample’ approach. In Year 9, students are encouraged to continue exploring their interests, gifts and talents. Students study their Core subjects in addition to 3 chosen electives for the year. As students transition through the Middle School into Senior School, a student’s subject preferences will become more evident and their career aspirations grow. In Year 10, students at Grace Lutheran Coolege prepare for their transition into the final years of high school. Students are encouraged to select elective subjects that they enjoy, find challenging and support their future career aspirations. Each student will also study a number of set Core Subjects throughout the year, including Religion & Ethics, English, Mathematics, Science and Physical Education. 

Students in Year 10 can select from a wide range of learning areas, including subjects within Business, Creative Industries, History, STEM, Languages, Performing and Lifestyle Technologies. Accredited VET courses are also available to students from Year 10 onwards. Completing a subject in Year 10 will assist students to be more prepared for that subject in the following years, and this must be considered when selecting Year 10 subjects.

Students in Years 10 also meet with our Careers Support team to begin planning their career pathways.

During Year 10, students also take part in the 4 week Googa Outdoor Education program as part of their curriculum. 

In their final years, Grace Lutheran College will assist students to track their progress towards achieving their academic goals (including their QCE). Students can select from a wide range of learning areas, including dozens of Core, Elective and vocational training subjects. As with all years, students are encouraged to select subjects they enjoy, find challenging and support their future career aspirations.

Most students will plan their QCE pathway in Year 10 when selecting senior courses of study. Grace will help them develop their individual plan and a QCAA learning account will be opened. During Year 11, students continue to meet with the Careers Support team to plan their career pathways or tertiary study.

In their final years, Grace will assist students to track their progress towards achieving their career aspirations and learning goals. This includes achieving their desired ATAR and a QCE. Both our Caboolture and Rothwell campuses average 85% or higher ATAR achievement in Year 12 (state average is 52%). 

Students in Year 12 study a personalised curriculum chosen from a wide range of subjects, including core, elective and vocational training subjects. These subjects are selected in Year 11 and continue into Year 12.

Students at Grace can also explore a range of hands-on opportunities with additional Careers Support or our work experience options. Students also have the opportunity to study University units while at high school and apply these to their tertiary study.

Grace Lutheran College offers a broad range of exciting programs for students who are academically gifted or show exceptional talent in particular learning areas. These gifted and talented programs cover English Literature, Mathematics, Science, Dance, Music, Sport, FLEX (Foreign Languages Excellence) and Robotics. 

Designed to engage and challenge passionate learners, these programs are built to meet the needs gifted and talented students by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and motivation required to excel in their area of talent. 

Some Ignite Excellence Programs (such as Mathematics, Science and English) are facilitated via specialised classes in those subject areas (during the timetabled school day). Other Ignite Excellence programs and opportunities are co curricular.  Ignite Excellence students also have the opportunity to attend a range of events (including our FIRST Lego League Robotics competitions) and receive mentoring in their area of talent. 

Grace Lutheran College’s Caboolture and Rothwell Campuses each offer a selection of Ignite Excellence Programs for students. These are tailored to meet the gifts and talents demonstrated across the cohort. 

Students must apply to take part in Grace Lutheran College’s Ignite Excellence Programs. Applications can be submitted to the Academic Enrichment team,

by the end of Term 2 of the year prior to entry.  Late applications are accepted all year, but subject to availability.

At Grace Lutheran College, we encourage every student to celebrate their God-given gifts and talents. Through our creative industries program, students have the opportunity to study subjects such as visual art, graphic design, interior design, filmmaking and new media. Students can gain practical skills and experience in the creative industries field, while also developing their creative, spiritual and artistic identity. 

Students at Grace may study the creative industries as curriculum subjects or co-curricular activities. Creative industries subjects at offered at all year levels as part of the college curriculum, or students can choose to join school clubs such as Film & TV Club, Film Crew or Art Club. As part of the Grace Lutheran College Film Crew, students regularly attend college events to capture photos and videos for social media, the yearbook and the school archive. 

Student studying the creative industries regularly host art exhibitions and film nights for their friends and families to enjoy. Some may choose to enter their work in film competitions or art awards, which is always eagerly supported by the Grace Lutheran College community.

Students at Grace have the opportunity to study German and Japanese from Year 7 through to Year 12. Our approach to learning languages is based on providing practical experience, and encouraging understanding of languages and the communities that use them.

Our German and Japanese language students participate in a range of hands-on activities which help them to become active and confident users of the language. Through our International Schools Partnerships, students regularly connect with students from across the globe to practice their German and Japanese in person. Working with native German and Japanese-speaking individuals helps students to apply their language learning effectively and develop a deeper appreciation for different cultures.

Grace Lutheran College also regularly hosts students from Japan and Germany as part of a student exchange program. International students attend classes at Grace, live with host families, and help students to practice their language skills. 

Students who study German or Japanese in Senior School have the opportunity to travel on overseas student exchange programs or exchange tours. These exchange tours often take place over school holidays and are attended by Grace staff. 

Grace Lutheran College has a proud history of partnerships with Nichidai Tsurugaoka High School (Tokyo, Japan) and Geschwister-School Gymnasium (Lebach, Saarland Germany).

Grace Lutheran College offers an extensive performing arts program that spans Year 7 to Year 12. Students have the opportunity to study drama, dance, media and music both in the curriculum and as part of their co curricular activities. 

We believe that the study of the Performing Arts contributes strongly to personal growth through the development of emotional, physical and social skills, self-esteem, creativity and expression. Our performing arts programs encourage students to build confidence and team work skills. Boasting specially built music and dance studios, students are equipped with the tools and facilities to help their creativity flow.  

Grace students who choose to study the Performing Arts present performance showcases throughout the year. These include Vocal, Dance and instrumental groups. Students can also take part in co curricular activities, such as school musicals, bands, plays, Performing Arts tours and Performing Arts competitions across Australia. 

Student performers can also join Grace Academy, an initiative of Grace Lutheran College, to further their music, drama and dance talents. Grace Academy offers high quality performing arts programs, and the opportunity to with other schools, community groups, to the broader Moreton Bay regional community.

Grace Lutheran College has a long standing record of success in sport spanning over 40 years. Our students are passionate about representing the college in a wide range of sports and activities that range from Soccer, Touch Football, Rugby League and Netball to Ice Skating, Equestrian and Ten Pin Bowling. We believe all students should be encouraged and have the opportunity to participate in sport and fitness, as a crucial education pillar in developing Grit, Growth and Grace. 

Sport and physical education is part of the core curriculum for students in Year 7 to Year 12. This is due to the immeasurable physical, social and emotional health benefits it provides.

Our sport program is progressive and supported by a range of learning and development opportunities. These cater for the different interests, physical ability, age and gender of our students. In addition to in-class and recreation sport, students also have the choice of countless co-curricular sports and events. 

Students can also apply to be part of the Grace Sporting Excellence programs, including the G.O.A.L.S program. G.O.A.L.S has been specifically designed to suit the needs of high performing students through a holistic approach to athlete development. Students can work towards their sporting and academic goals with a personalised class structure, sport specific physical conditioning, quality mentoring and guidance. Senior classes include a mix of in class and outside of school hours.

At Grace, we offer a broad range of science, technology, engineering and robotics programs designed to challenge and equip students for the future. 

Our STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) provide students with an excellent opportunity to explore technology and science in a fun and insightful way. These programs prepare them to be well-educated young adults, and can equip them for a future career in robotics, science or engineering. 

From Year 7 onwards, all students at Grace study STEM subjects as part of their core curriculum. Each will also have the chance to select elective classes covering digital technologies, design, engineering, advanced mathematics, chemistry, physics, robotics coding and practical technology skills. As students move though high school, they can also select VET courses in technology and engineering.

Grace’s extensive Robotics programs enable students to study robotics in the classroom and complete in national and international Robotics competitions. Since 2008, Grace has been at the forefront of robotics programs in schools. Grace students regularly represent Australia in the FIRST Lego League Global Challenge, and Grace Lutheran College is responsible for the national FIRST Tech Challenge championship every December. In 2015, Grace students became the first in Queensland to build a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) robot – the highest level of school-based robotics in the world.  

Every student who enrols from Year 7 at Grace Lutheran College will study robotics at some stage during their journey through high school, and may choose to carry this into their senior studies. Senior students can select a range of hand-on classes and vocational certificate courses, including activities such as drone flying, coding, computer science and civil engineering.

Students who excel at science, mathematics or robotics may apply to Grace's gifted and talented programs through Ignite Excellence. Our Ignite Excellence programs span all year levels and are an extension on the Grace Lutheran College curriculum.

At Grace, students can integrate work experience, university study, apprentiships or Vocational Education and Training (VET) into their high school studies. Some qualifications are offered as school subjects and are offered as part of the students’ timetables. Other are offered off-line or off campus at TAFE or a private provider. Many provide on-the-job training and practical experience.

Students may choose to complete a school-based traineeship or commence a school-based apprenticeship in Year 10, 11 and 12. This may come with part-time work or paid employment.

Many student courses, certificates and work experience can lead to higher levels in vocational training, tertiary study or into trainee-ships and apprenticeships. Students can also accurate points towards a QCE with VET and Career-based studies. 

Thanks to Federal Government funding, Grace recently built the Trades Skills Centre at the Rothwell campus to help address local skills shortages in the trades of cabinetmaking, carpentry, general construction, engineering and metal fabrication. This facility allows students to learn a trade and gain qualifications while completing their high school studies.
